The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is (looking for Research Associate) jobs an independent and multi-dimensional research institute, with capabilities in research, policy, consultancy, and implementation. The Centre for Sustainable Development Research and Leadership is a special centre based with TERI which, through research and stakeholder engagement, seeks promote systemic change and drive leadership to accelerate the goals of sustainable development and climate action.
The Centre seeks to:
- Promote systemic change: Through research and capacity building on policy innovations such as green budgeting and green public procurement, the Centre seeks to foster greater integration of sustainable development through a systemic approach for addressing environmental issues.
- Drive leadership through pioneering knowledge-based conversations and dialogues: The Centre serves as the Secretariat for TERI’s annual flagship convening – World Sustainable Development Summit. Through the annual World Sustainable Development Summit convenings supplemented with Act4Earth research and engagement, the centre seeks to advance narratives that drive global ambition and actions at all levels.
Contribute towards further accelerating progress towards achieving goals of sustainable development and climate action: The centre seeks to strengthen the interface between SDGs through research that examines the interlinkages across various issue areas. Through engaging with forums such as the G20, UNFCCC, multilateral initiatives, and state governments, the centre seeks to propel informed, integrated and collectively driven agendas and initiatives.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Candidates with 1-3 years of experience after an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) may apply for a Research Associate position.
- Fresh university graduates/ graduating students with internship experience during advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) may apply for a Project Associate position.
- The candidate should have an advanced degree (Masters equivalent) in public policy, development studies, governance, economics, international relations, management, environmental studies or related fields.
- TERI is looking to recruit a motivated, dynamic, and talented professional with excellent communications skills who has the drive to dive deep into research to address policy questions as well as reach out to stakeholders through various outreach initiatives. The candidate will be a research professional who will be engaged in research and advocacy projects on various facets of sustainable development as well as developing new projects through proposal writing.
- Work experience in policy research applying concepts of sustainable development along with a strong component of stakeholder engagement through outreach is required.
ABOUT YOUR ROLE
- The candidate will undertake research and analysis of policy readiness, scope, schemes, and policy processes related to sustainable development policy innovations such as green budgeting, green public procurement, SDG reporting and undertaking to understand the interface between various SDGs including climate policy.
- The candidate will contribute to preparing policy briefs under the Act4Earth initiative on the topic of green budgeting, sustainable lifestyles, energy security and climate action.
- The candidate will play a role in organizing and mobilizing partnerships for the World Sustainable Development Summit and Act4Earth Initiative
How your day will unfold:
I. Research (50%)
- Support data analysis in research projects on sustainable development such as policy landscape, stakeholder mapping, readiness among governments and markets for policy innovations. This will include desk-based review of government data, published literature, and grey literature, as well as primary data collection from key stakeholders through interviews and engagement channels such as workshops and dialogues.
- Support the identification of gaps, barriers, and policy recommendations for mainstreaming sustainable development across issue areas with leading policy innovators and mentors.
- Support with designing data collection methodologies and data collection as and when required.
- Support writing, analysis, and production of high-quality knowledge products (reports, policy briefs,working papers) that encapsulate research findings.
- Travel as needed for research and advocacy, across India and abroad.
II. Outreach and Mobilizing Partners (30%)
- Support in organizing TERI’s flagship initiative, World Sustainable Development Summit in coordination with partner organizations and various teams within TERI.
- Support different activities of the initiative including organizing thematic tracks, plenaries, and special events.
IV. Coordination and Communications (20%)
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders including governments, donors, research organizations and universities, civil society organizations, and corporate sector.
- Convening multi-stakeholder consultative dialogues with experts and mentors.
- Communicating research findings in diverse formats (blogs, policy briefs, presentations) suitable for stakeholders from government, international organizations, private and non-government sectors, with a focus on influencing policy and practice.
Qualifications and requirements:
- The candidate should have an advanced/ post-graduate degree (master’s or equivalent) in public policy, development studies, governance, economics, international relations, management, or related fields.
- Team player and must have a collaborative attitude.
- Must be comfortable with multi-tasking.
- Knowledge and application of sustainable development concepts is essential.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research tools is essential.
- Ability to synthesize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner, suitable for diverse audiences.
- Ability to coordinate activities such as multi-stakeholder events and dialogues.
- Excellent communications skills (written and verbal) in English.
- Ability to communicate clearly and coherently, particularly in formal and informal writing.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Ability to take initiative, brainstorm, think creatively and work under pressure with tight deadlines.
- Responsible, self-motivated, respectful, and efficient.
