PhD Programme Highlights

Areas of Research: Embark on a journey of discovery in Environmental Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

Candidates are required to provide a Statement of Purpose (SOP), in the given format by the institute.

Fellowship: Admissible as per Govt. of India rules as provided by UGC/CSIR/DBT/DST/ICMR etc.

Eligibility Criteria for PhD Interview

Here are the eligibility criteria for Bose Institute PhD Admission 2023

  1. Candidates should have an award of JRF (CSIR-UGC JRF/ DBT-JRF/ ICMR-JRF/ DST- INSPIRE/
    DBT-BINC or equivalent), whose last date of validity should not be earlier than 30th
    September 2023. If candidates, who are in the final year of their Master’s degree programme
    and are in possession of an award of a JRF, are selected, they will have to submit their final
    degree certificate at the time of joining.
  2. Master’s degree or equivalent in any of the following fields: Engineering/ Science/ Technology
    with at least 55 % of marks for general candidates, while 50% marks is necessary for
    SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled and other categories of candidates, as per
    UGC norms.
  3. DST-INSPIRE candidates can only be admitted provisionally. Confirmation of their admission
    to the PhD programme of Bose Institute is subject to the final award of INSPIRE fellowship by
    DST. If the candidate is finally not awarded the INSPIRE fellowship by DST, his/her provisional
    admission is liable to be cancelled by the Institute. In case of DST Inspire Fellowship, the
    candidate must be qualified NET-LS/GATE/similar National Level Test, for being considered in the
    Ph.D. Programme in Bose Institute.
  4. Candidates who have qualified in GATE/ JEST/ JGEEBILS/ NET (LS) etc., but who do not have a
    valid award of JRF mentioned in (1) above, or equivalent, are ineligible to apply.
  5. No student awarded for ICAR Fellowship will be eligible for participating in the Ph.D. Programme
    in Bose Institute.

Application Process

To apply for the PhD Programme at Bose Institute, follow these simple steps:

1. Visit the online application portal at http://www.jcbose.ac.in/applications/PHD-ADMISSION/ and fill out the required details.

2. The deadline for submitting your online application is 20th August 2023, by 23:59 Hrs.

3. Once you successfully submit your application, an acknowledgement receipt will be generated. Keep this receipt for future reference. You’ll need to present this receipt if you’re called for an interview. Please note that candidates without this receipt won’t be allowed to attend the interview.

Application Guidelines

1. Make sure to fill in all the required information accurately and carefully in the online application form. Regularly visit the Institute’s website at http://www.jcbose.ac.in for updates. We won’t send separate notifications to individual candidates.

2. Ensure that you provide accurate details regarding your age, educational qualifications, and valid community certificates. Please note that any false or incorrect information will lead to the rejection of your candidature.

3. The essential qualifications mentioned are the minimum requirements. Meeting these qualifications doesn’t guarantee an interview call.

4. During the interview, you’ll need to produce all original documents and certificates for age verification, reservation category, and educational qualifications. Additionally, bring one set of self-attested copies for verification purposes. Failure to provide these documents will result in disqualification from the interview.

5. The Institute reserves the right to limit the number of candidates called for the 1st round of interviews based on qualifications. We may also decide not to call 2nd round interviews for candidates whose 1st round scores fall below a certain cut-off.

6. The list of shortlisted candidates, along with interview dates and times, will be published on the Institute’s website. Please remember that being shortlisted doesn’t guarantee admission.

7. Interviews will be conducted in offline mode. Online interviews will only be arranged if the candidate resides beyond 100 km from the Unified Academic Campus of Bose Institute or has another interview on the same date. In such cases, a request must be submitted via email within two days of the interview schedule’s publication on the Institute’s website.

8. The selection process includes a two-step screening: assessment of core subject knowledge in the first step and suitability for scientific research in the second step. Your Statement of Purpose, submitted during the application, will be considered during the second round of screening.

9. Eligibility criteria, including the upper age limit, will be determined based on the last date of application submission.

10. Only shortlisted candidates will receive email notifications of interview dates. The list will also be available at www.jcbose.ac.in.

11. Before applying, ensure you meet the essential qualifications and other specified conditions mentioned in the advertisement. Ineligibility will lead to candidature cancellation at any stage of the interview process.

12. Prepare PDF files of all required documents before starting the online application process.

13. No TA/DA is provided for interview attendance.

14. Specific interview instructions will be communicated to shortlisted candidates only.

15. The final list of selected candidates will be published on the Institute’s website.

16. The Institute Authority reserves the right to reject applications without assigning a reason.

17. The Institute reserves the right to not fill all advertised posts and to reject any applications without reason.

18. Stay updated by visiting the Institute’s website for any amendments.

19. We won’t entertain interim queries in any form.

20. Avoid canvassing or exerting influence, as it will lead to disqualification.

21. Age relaxation will follow Govt. of India guidelines for eligible candidates.

22. UGC’s reservation rules for SC/ST/OBC/EWS will be applicable.

23. SC/ST/OBC category candidates must furnish a Caste Certificate for reservation claim.

24. OBC candidates should provide a certificate as per the prescribed format, signed by specified authorities. The certificate must confirm non-belonging to Creamy Layers.

25. All disputes will be under Kolkata jurisdiction.
