SEWA Bharat is a federation of women-led institutions providing economic and social support to women in the informal economy. SEWA Bharat is part of the national SEWA movement and was established in 1984. SEWA Bharat emerged out of the need to address the SEWA movement’s challenges with geographical expansion and coordination. SEWA Bharat is a family of SEWA organizations to further informal women workers’ rights, livelihoods, financial independence, education, health, and social security.

Job Description

SEWA Bharat is looking for a Assistant Programme Coordinator who will work in close coordination with the Programme Coordinator to develop and manage a programme in alignment with SEWA Bharat’s mandate to support women workers in the informal economy. An ideal candidate would be a self-driven professional, who would support in effective implementation of a programme, and communication with donors, various state teams, implementation partners, and other stakeholders. Working closely with grassroots communities, thus having a deep familiarity with their requirements, is a must.

Programme Details

This position will work closely with programmes within SEWA Bharat that are centered around women’s microentrepreneurship as well as the care economy, with a focus on women’s access to childcare. For the past three years, SEWA Bharat has run a programme on building resilience of women entrepreneurs specially to withstand multiple crises, and fostering the growth of their micro enterprises. The project was able to successfully demonstrate that services bundled under health insurance, childcare, social security, basic infrastructural provisions (water, sanitation, street lights, road, drainage etc.), access to working capital, skill development and digital upgradation provide a buffer for women so they can invest in their entrepreneurial venture. Child care emerged as a dire need of many such self-employed women workers, especially as they aspire to invest time and resources in their businesses. SEWA Bharat is currently developing a set of strategies that address their lack of access to quality and affordable child care, including promoting early childhood development.

Tasks and Deliverables will include:

This position will assist the Programme Coordinator in day-to-day management of project teams, consultants, and external partners in running of a major programme in accordance with donor guidelines and organizationally-determined priority areas. A major part of the role will be liaising with donor(s) and regular engagement with donor(s). The position will assist key programme leads of the project’s implementation, monitoring and learning verticals. She will review budget allocation and utilization on a monthly basis across multiple implementation partners, internal and external to SEWA Bharat. She will also support the hiring requirements and administrative needs of the project with the Finance and Admin team of the organization. A key role of the position will be supporting the project team to curate and create monthly, quarterly and annual reports/documentation as required. She will work closely will the Programme

Coordinator in developing strategic plans, annual and quarterly work plans, and overall management of the program in line with donor guidelines and within set timelines to achieve objectives
Identification of issues and risks related to activity implementation and rolling out appropriate mitigation or corrective measures in a timely manner will be part of the role.

The undertaking of the abovementioned responsibilities will be driven by a continuous interface with SEWA’s grassroots women members, and their collectives. Scheduling and planning field visits will be crucial in delivering quality, and informing key interventions under the programme. As needed, the position will organise and facilitate capacity building workshops for field team members and SEWA’s grassroots community leaders in collaboration with other organisation verticals and their teams.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree from a recognized university, or a Bachelor’s degree and exceptional work experience will be considered for the position.
  • 3-4 years of work experience in the social sector with sector-specific knowledge and expertise in gender and women’s economic empowerment is a must.
  • Candidates with experience in institutional capacity building, systems strengthening ae encouraged to apply.
  • Qualification in Early Childhood Education, Public Health and Childcare and Women’s Entrepreneurship will be preferred.
  • Experience of working with USAID as a donor will be preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and spend extensive time in the field across project locations.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Hindi, at least.
  • Passion for bringing about real, sustainable, large-scale change for women in India’s mostmarginalized communities
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team, well organized, with a detail-oriented and problem-solving approach
  • Good to have experience of project management tools including Word, Excel, etc.

Salary and Compensation

7.2 LPA – 7.6 LPA, commensurate with the candidate’s prior experience

Location

Delhi (with travel to SEWA states, travel costs to be borne by the organization)
